West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster suggests he will not make England return

The loaned out Birmingham shot-stopper sprung a surprise by announcing an early international retirement in the summer, and says he is still happy with his decision.

West Bromwich Albion loanee keeper Ben Foster has admitted he is still happy with his decision to make himself unavailable for England because it is keeping him free of injury.

The 28-year-old declared his surprise early international retirement towards the end of last season before making the temporary move to The Hawthorns from relegated Birmingham City.

Although Joe Hart is Fabio Capello’s first choice, no-one is yet to secure the second keeper spot in the lead-up to Euro 2012 and Foster appears content to remain uninvolved.

He told reporters: “The main reason to stop playing for England was to get rid of any niggling injuries – and at the moment I have stayed injury free.

“I am happy with the way things are going at the moment.”

The former Manchester United player has played 14 games for the Baggies this season so far, keeping three clean sheets along the way, and has helped Roy Hodgson’s side move five points clear of the relegation zone.

The keeper, who also had a loan spell at Watford, made his debut for the national side four years ago against Spain, but only managed to add four caps before making himself unavailable.

Myhill Named as First Football League Precision Goalkeeping Golden Glove Winner

Birmingham City goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has been named as the inaugural winner of the Football League Precision Goalkeeping Golden Glove award for October.

Myhill, who is on loan at St Andrews from West Bromwich Albion, kept five clean sheets in October and conceded just one goal to take the first Precision Goalkeeping award, run in conjunction with The Football League.

The Wales international’s efforts between the posts helped Birmingham to four wins and a draw in October.

On being the first ever winner, Myhill said; “To get any recognition as a player is something you cherish and it is something I will be keeping on the mantel piece, obviously I am delighted to be the first winner.

“As a goalkeeper you tend to get recognition when things don’t go well – the award is a great idea and hope I can win it again this season.”

The Precision Goalkeeping Golden Glove award will be presented each month to the Football League goalkeeper that has kept the most clean sheets in all competitions.

There will also be an annual award in the Championship, League 1 and League 2 for the keeper that has kept the most clean sheets throughout the season in all competitions.
